Liz, a physics student from Montreal, is about to land in Germany for a summer internship at the end of her freshman year. Eager for a new beginning, she hopes to break free of her unrealized childhood dream of becoming a pianist, a dead-end romantic relationship, and the tug of war between her Chinese and Canadian identities.
However, the appearance of fellow intern Haider, an Indian Muslim from Toronto, changes everything. They first fall in love against expectations. Then they struggle against culture clashes and family disapproval. As her sense of self is pushed dangerously close to a tipping point, Liz must summon the courage to survive the chaos that her life has become.
