Personal & professional philosophy:
Preserves ancient traditions of Chinese music and celebrates diversity and creativity in the contemporary applications of this music, resulting from the interaction between musicians of various ethnic and musical backgrounds. By presenting musicians and ensembles from different ethnicities, nationalities, and musical trainings/genres, Lan’s works re-define Chinese music and reflect Vancouver’s multicultural environment and a highly creative music scene.

Crossing Mountains and Seas, Orchid Ensemble production on July 20 at Vancouver Playhouse, Sound of Dragon Ensemble Asia Tour in September 2019.
What is the highlight of your work?
Experimenting with contradictions by taking culturally specific materials outside their context.

Future goals:
Lan’s future projects will create more international collaboration and bring Vancouver musicians/composers to the international stage.
